Such dialogue-intensive comedy requires impeccable timing and pace, and director Jane Woollard keeps the production buoyant. She is also alive to the uncanny resonance that some of Esson's bon-mots have to a contemporary audience - without straining the jokes or descending into high camp. This excellent production - so swift-tongued, so energised and comically assured - shows how far we've some since Esson's day.
